Hyperconnection
Take proactive steps to identify and educate your employees about the potential risk behaviors associated with excessive hyperconnectivity in the digital era.
What is hyperconnection?
Hyperconnection refers to the continuous utilization of modern technologies to stay connected to work, even beyond regular working hours. This dependency can arise from organizational and/or individual factors and may have personal, social, and professional implications.
The right to disconnect in Belgium
According to Belgian law, the “right to disconnect” ensures that employers cannot compel employees to respond to work-related requests outside regular working hours unless absolutely necessary. This provision becomes crucial in a time when the use of digital technology has surged, particularly in the professional realm.
As of April 1st, 2023, all companies with 20 or more employees are obligated to establish a framework and implement measures to ensure the right to disconnect. This includes training and raising awareness about the risks associated with increased connectivity.
When should hyperconnection be measured?
- During the recruitment process, to introduce the company’s policy on the right to disconnect to new employees
- At least once a year (recommended) to evaluate compliance with the policy and identify potential areas for improvement
